Silicone breast implant removal

For many women, breasts are an important part of their self-image. Sometimes, breasts that have been enhanced with implants no longer feel like their own. In such cases, corrective surgery to remove the breast implants may be the solution. Other reasons for implant removal may include an unsuccessful implant choice or an unaesthetic result. Sairaala KL performs several corrective surgeries every year.

How are silicone implants removed?

The removal of silicone implants begins with a consultation with a plastic surgeon. Smooth-surfaced, non-adhered implants can be removed under local anaesthesia. Rough-surfaced implants usually require short general anaesthesia.

How should I prepare for silicone implant removal and aftercare?

The surgery is short and typically uncomplicated. You can go home on the same day after the surgery, and sick leave is usually not necessary. The need for pain medication is also typically very low, and you can return to your normal routine within a few days. A small percentage of people who have had breast implants removed later want new breast implants or, alternatively, breast fat transfer.
