Inverted nipple correction

In some cases, inverted nipples are a congenital defect or a problem that develops with age, causing the nipple to retract into a dimple. People usually consult a plastic surgeon when inverted nipples cause cosmetic discomfort. 

Nipple correction can be performed with a minor surgical procedure under local anaesthesia. After the procedure, a bandage is applied around the nipple to prevent bras from pressing against it. The stitches are removed after a week, but the bandage is kept in place for four weeks. 

It should be noted that after surgery, it will not be possible to breastfeed. The nipples also tend to retract again, in which case surgery will be necessary again.

Nipple reconstruction

A new nipple usually needs to be created after breast reconstruction. This is a minor outpatient procedure that takes about half an hour. Sick leave is not usually required.
