Liposuction can be performed on the abdomen, flanks, thighs, knees, chin and upper arms. Liposuction is suitable for people with good basic health who need to shape a specific part of the body.
However, liposuction is not a weight loss method and is not suitable for removing fat from inside the abdominal cavity. The nature of the surgery could be thought of more as body contouring.
Abdominal liposuction is performed under sterile conditions in an operating room. The procedure can be performed under general anaesthesia, spinal anaesthesia, or sometimes local anaesthesia.
WAL technology – water-assisted liposuction – is a method in which a jet of liquid from a suction cannula first evenly numbs the tissue and then helps to loosen the fat cells. The water jet gently loosens the fat.
You will recover quickly from WAL liposuction. The need for sick leave depends on both the area treated and your occupation. After minor liposuction, you will not need any time off work, but after major liposuction involving 2-3 kilograms, you should be prepared to take 3-7 days off work, depending on your occupation.
After the operation, you may experience slight bruising, swelling, and possible sensory disturbances. Light exercise is recommended as it improves blood circulation, reduces swelling, and promotes healing.
