Lip shaping and upper lip lift, or buffaloplasty, emphasises the shape and fullness of the lips. Lips can be shaped either with fillers or surgically.
As we age, the red area of the lips shrink and the skin of the upper lip lengthens, which can make the lips appear thin and modest. Vertical lines also form on the skin.
Lip shaping can be used to create a fuller mouth shape. Conversely, naturally oversized lips can be reduced by trimming the red area of the lips to make them thinner. Lip shaping can also be performed as part of facial feminization surgery in connection with gender reassignment. If necessary, this operation can also be performed simultaneously with other procedures, such as chin or nose surgery.
Hyaluronic acid gel is used in lip augmentation treatments. It is injected into the skin and under the mucous membrane at the desired location using a very fine needle. If necessary, the lips are numbed before the procedure.
The gel used in filler treatments is made from non-animal ingredients that mimic the hyaluronic acid naturally found in the skin.
The treatment is quick to perform and usually takes less than 30 minutes. The results are partially visible immediately, but the lips swell easily. The final results are typically visible after two weeks. The effects of filler treatment on the lips last for 6-12 months.
The lips can also be enlarged using autologous fat transfer.
With the help of autologous fat transfer, the thinned lip red becomes fuller. At the same time, the edges of the red area, the so-called white roll, can be treated to remove vertical lines.
The recovery time is quite similar to that after fillers, although the lips may remain swollen for a little longer. The permanence of fat transfer in the lips varies, but the end result is usually more permanent than with fillers. The transferred fat is the patient's own tissue, and side effects from fat grafting are extremely rare.
Buffaloplasty, or surgical lifting of the upper lip, is used to permanently lift a drooping upper lip.
In this procedure, the skin is cut shorter from an incision made at the bottom of the nose, resembling a buffalo horn. The lips appear younger as the red area becomes more prominent. The skin between the lips and nose, which lengthens with age, is also shortened.
Buffaloplasty is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia, in which an incision is made inconspicuously at the bottom of the nose. The stitches are removed one week after the procedure. The results of the surgery are permanent. The procedure can also be performed in conjunction with another surgery, such as a facelift or nose job.
The price of the procedure includes one follow-up visit to the doctor and any necessary stitch removal/wound care visits.
