Gender affirmation, breast removal

Breast removal is a common surgical procedure, and the most common reason for undergoing the operation is gender affirmation. Other reasons include fear of breast cancer or genetic predisposition to it or an irreversible desire to have one's breasts removed.

The surgery can be performed through  an incision made in the breast when the breast is small (max. approx. 300 g) and only a small amount of skin needs to be removed. In case of large breasts, we remove the breast from the incision and create a new nipple by using the old nipple as a skin graft.

The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and takes approximately 1.5 hours. After the surgery, you will be able to return home on the evening of the same day. The surgical area will be supported with a pressure bandage for 3-4 weeks after the surgery. We suture the inside of the breast and do not use drains or drainage tubes at all.

Healing and recovery are assessed one month after surgery, and six months later once more to make sure everything is fine. Sometimes it is advisable to reduce slightly oversized breasts using the nipple technique and then trim the breast a few times later. A small scar is always worth the trouble.

We do not require testosterone treatment for those undergoing corrective surgery.
