Fotona ClearSteps™ is a new way to treat troublesome nail fungus. The method uses an Nd:YAG laser to heat the nail bed and nail, which destroys the nail fungus. 

How is nail fungus removed with a laser?

Deep, pulsating radiation heats the nail bed, destroying the fungus. Four to six treatments are usually needed to ensure results. A new, slowly growing nail replaces the old nail damaged by fungus. Nail growth is very slow, and a new, healthy nail will only be visible after several months.

The ClearSteps™ treatment is carried out in three stages:

Step 1: The nail is filed down. A nail damaged by nail fungus is often thick and misshapen. Thinning the nail increases the permeability of the laser treatment through the nail.

Step 2: The nail is treated thoroughly with Nd:YAG, or neodymium, laser pulses. The treatment feels like a warm sensation in the toe.

Step 3: The edges of the nails and the spaces between the toes are also treated with laser, as fungus often grows in these areas as well.

Nail fungus treatment period and preparation for it‍

Laser treatment for nail fungus is performed 4-6 times: the first four treatments are performed weekly, and if necessary, the fifth treatment is performed after one month and the sixth treatment after three months. 

Prepare for the new treatment cycle as follows:

Visit a podiatrist to have your nails thinned before your first treatment. This will ensure that the treatment is as effective as possible. Bring clean, new socks or socks that have been washed at a minimum of 60 degrees Celsius to your first treatment appointment. All footwear that has been worn with damaged nails should be replaced, washed at 60 degrees Celsius, disinfected, and/or steamed. In addition, all nail care tools (scissors, files, clippers, etc.) should be replaced.

Make sure your nails and feet are clean when you come for treatment. There should be no lotions or oils on your skin, and no polish on your nails (including treatment polish).
